Some of my favorite travel memories are not from fancy hotels or bucket-list sights. They are from simple moments like sharing a coffee from a small cafe or Glühwein from a market stall with Mom at a Christmas market in Germany, or laughing as we tried to squeeze her oversized purse into a tiny European taxi.
Since my Dad passed a few years back, Mom and I have made it a tradition to travel together, especially around the Christmas holidays. We have wandered cobblestone streets on Christmas market river cruises and discovered that sometimes the best stories come from things not going as planned. Like the time that purse of hers knocked over an entire gingerbread display at the Berlin Christmas Market.

Traveling with a parent, especially as they get older, is a little different than the glossy brochures suggest.
It means slowing down, planning around comfort and mobility, and remembering that the journey is just as important as the destination. Honestly, it’s taught me more about patience, humor, and travel itself than any guidebook ever could.
Why This Blog Exists
I started this blog because I wanted a place to share these stories - the planning, the chaos, and the moments that can only be handled with laughter. I will also share the little lessons and travel tips we have learned along the way.
Maybe you are thinking about taking a trip with your mom, dad, or another elderly loved one. Maybe you just enjoy a good travel mishap story over your morning coffee. Either way, I hope you will find something here that inspires you to pack a suitcase and make new memories together. Because it is not just about where we go… it is about who we take with us - and yes, even the oversized purse that somehow comes along for the ride.
Travel Tip from Mom’s Purse
Always pack hand warmers. Even if you’re not sure you’ll need them, your suitcase might mysteriously gain a family-sized pack anyway.

So here’s to the adventures ahead, with my mom and whoever else might join along the way. We will keep exploring, one suitcase and one cup of coffee at a time.
